My Favorite Thing To Do

My favorite thing  to do is play basketball. It has gotten me a lot of places and is even the reason I am at the University of Mary Washington. I have created a video to showcase my love for this wonderful sport.

I created this video using IMovie. I was not able to save our basketball game film to my computer so I recorded videos of it and saved those to my computer. Then I imported those, along with a bunch of pictures and videos I had, onto IMovie. I then inserted the song, “I Lived” because I think you can really realate that song to sports. Once I cut down the song to match the length of my video, I moved pictures around and cropped them to fit with the words in the song. It is a long process and you have to be very particular, but IMovie has a lot of tools to help you create your video. I love using that software for this kind of assignment.

In my video, I included serveral different things to showcase my affection towards the game. I included some video clips of me actually playing. There is nothing like playing on game day. It gets me so hyped to be on the court and see all my team and my’s hardwork pay off. I also included still action shots that show me playing in the games as well. I love basketball becuase it not only teaches you a lot of life lessons, but it is just fun. It is also fun to build relationships and chemistry with your team. That is why my video includes pictures/videos with my teammates. They are my best friends. They are my family. The relationships I have made through basketball is one of the most special and irreplacable things about it, so of course that had to be a big part of my video too. Hope you enjoy:)

Mrs. Dean’s Childhood

I chose to complete the assignment on my character’s childhood.

I decided to do this assignment after I found, ironically, another Kelsey’s, from our class, character. Her character is a horse. It instantly made me think of pets and how influential pets can be on a child’s life. In result, I decided to make her character,Tripp, my character’s pet. I loved the creativity in making her character an animal. It is very unqiue compared to eveyone else’s in the class and I wanted to acknowlege that.

For some reason I could not get it so embed so here it is!!

When my character, Mrs. Dean, was young she was a tomboy. She loved to get her hands dirty and she loved to play outside with her brothers. Her mom owned a ranch so she was passionate about animals and she always dreamed of having a horse to call her very own.

When she was about nine, she was playing out in the woods and she heard noises from across the way. She made her way to a wooden fence… and there she was… a beautiful thoroughbred Morgan horse (Mrs. Dean really knew her horses). An old man in a cowboy hat was brushing her mane as she drank water from a galloon tub. She looked majestic in a way Mrs. Dean had never seen, but she also looked sad and lonely. Little did she know the horse was sad because she was separated from her family when she was born. Mrs. Dean fearlessly ran up to the man and asked about the horse. The man allowed her to pet it and said that her name was Tripp because she was awfully clumsy. That made Mrs. Dean giggle. She said, “I’ve always wanted a horse of my own.”

The old man said, “how about I make you a deal? If you come clean and feed her when you have time, I’ll let her be your pet and you can come see her whenever you want.” She was thrilled.

Everyday she came and washed and fed Tripp just as she was told, she even got to sattle her up and ride her sometimes. Over the course of the years, they became friends, best friends, and even family. They had a special bound and Mrs. Dean loved her very much. Tripp was there for the good times and bad and Mrs. Dean would run to see her every time she was going through something. It was her place of refuge.

Though when Mrs. Dean grew older and had a family of her own she had to move away from Tripp, she still cherishes her as an irreplaceable memory and tells their stories to her children, to encourage them to make a friendship of a lifetime too. She says there’s nothing else that can compare to it.

In Ten Years…

I chose an assignment that asked me to write about where I saw myself in ten years. Since we are doing all our assignments on our characters this week, I wrote about a version of my character’s younger self and where she saw herself in ten years.

The reason I chose for a younger version of my character to write on this topic is because I have to incorporate another character. Since my character is a homesteader’s wife, I thought it would be funny to have her as a young girl talking about a crush that she wants as a potential suitor. I chose Kris’s,a senior at UMW, character, Merrell Shale, as the lucky guy.

The Lassoing Lady Commercial

I chose to create a radio commercial in honor of my character, Mrs. Dean, who is a hardworking homesteader’s wife. She not only works out in the fields with her husband, but she cooks, cleans, and knits and washes clothing in the home, because being a homesteader is an extremely self sufficient job. I created a Western Boutique as a place to treat herself. She always works so hard to support her family and she deserves to be paid back for that sometimes. Hopefully her family will hear this ad and want to splurge on her.

For my boutique, I thought of a name for my store and then I wrote out a script. I chose to play an instrumental version of Taylor Swift’s popular song “You Belong With Me.” I wanted to play this song in the background, because it is very western sounding with a little girly edge. It would really help promote my cute little boutique.

Mrs. Dean Gets Her Own Radio Show!!

My character is a loving wife and mother of three. That’s when I created  a radio bumper  for her, I made it a cooking talk show on the radio. She has collected a lot of homemade recipes through the year and she wants to share them with whoever wants to listen.

I wrote out the script on a Word document, and then I found a banjo clip on YouTube to play in the background. I pulled up Sound Cloud to record it. I read off the document while I attempted my best country accent….at least I tried right? haha

A is for Anonymous… Anonymous Text App That Is

I did the assignment where you create a radio ad for a product a character in your favorite show.

One of my favorite TV shows is Pretty Little Liars. In my radio ad I advertise an app called “Can I Have Your Number?” where you can text people anonymously. If you aren’t familiar with Pretty Little Liars, there is character that goes by A. “A”, as in anonymous, blackmails a group of high school girls. A sends them texts constantly from various sources. This app would be perfect for this character, because it allows you to simply type in the texts and the numbers, press send, and your number will come up as unknown. It’s pure evil at it’s finest…. Just like A.

Bucket List Places

I made a collage using Fotor Collage Maker.I choose a four-picture layout, inserted my pictures, and inserted textboxes to each section of the collage to label each picture. Easy as that!

FotorCreated

For my “Bucket List of Places,” for this assignment,I chose 4 places that really have nothing to do with each other but are all places of significance in the sense that I want to go to all of them someday for specific reasons.

Pink is my FAVORITE color…. so when I discovered an island with pink sand on Twitter, I thought it was the prettiest and coolest thing I had ever seen. I didn’t even know pink sand existed. A calcium carbonate from microscopic marine invertebrates is what is accredited for creating the pink pigmentation it in. I hope to this one day.

Laguna Beach was chosen because I love the beach and I have never been to the West Coast. My friend from high school goes to the school there and she raves about its beauty so I would love to take a getaway there someday.

I chose Nashville because it is the home of country music. Country is my favorite type of music and I would love to hop around town and just submerge myself in the culture… and get to wear my cowgirl boots on a normal day! Haha

My last “stop” so to speak is Venice, Italy. I haven’t done a lot of exploration in other countries and my parents said it’s magnificent. I want to do all the touristy things like eat authentic Italian food and ride in a gondola.

I hope I get to see all of these beautiful places one day. Though the oringal assignment called for places near me, I love exploring, so I have explored a lot of places near me and hardly any places far away..so I wanted to talk about other places I want to see even if they are more far fetched.

Minimalist Movie Shot

For the minimalist movie poster assignment, I had to first choose a movie for it. I chose How the Grinch Stole Christmas because it is one of my all time favorite movies.

Screen Shot 2016-02-16 at 6.30.54 PM

I thought I could make the face of the Grinch using basic shapes as the cover. I used the same Sketch Pad website as I did for the cereal box assignment, because I had a lot of success with it on that assignment.

I drew the lines of the poster into a rectangle, and then I colored it green. I added geometric shapes, a circle for the head, triangle for the hat, half moon for the eyes, and a rectangle for the mouth. I wanted to make sure the face was able to be depicted, but also was vague enough to be what’s considered “minimal.” I think it came out well. It was challenging to be creative and keep it simple at the same time, but I think that was the point of the whole exercise.

Wanted: The Bandit Queen

I created a Most Wanted poster using a website called Glass Giant for this assignment.

wantedposter

I chose Belle Starr aka “The Bandit Queen” for my Wanted poster because, yah know, girl power!! But also because I found her story very interesting. She became a bandit and a robber after her husband was killed after being accused for that same very crime, robbery.

Since I found her so interesting, I uploaded her picture to the website and I typed in all the information I wanted the poster to have. I chose a layout that fit my liking and then the website generated the poster for me. After it had been generated, I could tailor it to my pleasing if there were things about it I wanted to change. The website was very helpful in constructing this piece.
